Home care shift scheduling

Post by tjackson@una.ca »

Today, a few nurses reached out with concerns regarding vacation coverage. Previously, when vacation shifts were left unfilled, they were not actively sent out for coverage. However, today an email was sent asking staff to cover a third RN shift for next week.

For context, evening shifts usually have 3 RNs and 1 LPN. When an RN takes vacation, that position has traditionally been left unfilled, but now it appears the open shift is being actively redistributed to cover for the missing LPN staff that will be on strike.

Is this allowable?

Hi,

Would they fill the RN vacation shift if the LPN was also away? If not, it does not seem appropriate. If you know the AUPE rep for the Unit, you may want to let them know this is being done. If not, please reach out to your LRO to give them the particulars to share with AUPE.
